Installing an IKEA Kitchen
IKEA kitchens are one of the most popular choices in the UK, offering a wide range of styles and finishes at accessible price points. The METOD system — IKEA's current kitchen range — is a well-designed modular system that an experienced independent fitter can install to a high standard.
The Flat-Pack Difference
The key difference between an IKEA kitchen and kitchens from retailers such as Wren, Howdens or Magnet is that IKEA units are supplied flat-pack and must be fully assembled on site before installation. This is a significant additional task. Each carcass must be assembled from its components before it can be levelled and fixed in position. For a medium-sized IKEA kitchen, this assembly process typically adds one to two full days to the installation programme compared to a pre-assembled kitchen of the same size.
This additional time is reflected in our installation quotes for IKEA kitchens. We do not rush the assembly stage — each carcass is assembled correctly, with all clips and fixings properly engaged, before it is installed. Poorly assembled IKEA carcasses are a common cause of door alignment problems and drawer failures later.
Checking Your IKEA Order
Before installation day, we strongly recommend checking your IKEA delivery carefully against your order. IKEA kitchens are ordered as individual components, and missing parts — a single hinge pack, a drawer front in the wrong size, or a missing worktop bracket — can delay installation. Our pre-installation survey includes a review of your IKEA plan to identify any obvious gaps or conflicts before delivery.
