The Importance of Getting Worktops Right
The worktop is one of the most used surfaces in any home, and it is one of the most visible. A poorly fitted worktop — one with a visible joint gap, a sink cutout that isn't flush, or an end that hasn't been scribed to the wall — is impossible to overlook. We take worktop fitting seriously because a well-fitted worktop makes the whole kitchen look considered and complete.
We supply laminate worktops from leading UK manufacturers in a wide range of finishes, thicknesses and edge profiles. For solid surfaces — quartz, granite and Corian — we work with specialist fabricators who template and cut on their premises, and we co-ordinate installation to ensure the work is sequenced correctly around the rest of the project.
Measuring, Cutting and Jointing
Every worktop run is measured accurately before cutting. On L-shaped or U-shaped layouts, joints are routed using a precision jig to create a tight mitre or butt joint that is bonded with the correct adhesive and clamped while curing. Once set, the joint is sanded flush so that it is barely visible in most finishes.
Overhangs, scribes to walls and end panels are all accounted for at the measurement stage. We cut to length on-site using fine-tooth blades to avoid chipping, and we always work from the underside of laminate worktops to keep the face finish clean.
Sink and Hob Cutouts
Cutouts for sinks and hobs are made to template, either using the template supplied with the appliance or by creating one from the unit itself. The cutout edges are sealed with proprietary waterproof sealant to protect the core material from moisture, and the sink or hob is then dropped in and secured according to its fixing type — undermount, inset or flush.
We always confirm appliance specifications before cutting. A cutout that is even a few millimetres out can mean the appliance does not sit correctly or the clips do not engage properly, so we measure twice and cut once.
Finishing Details
Once worktops are in place, end panels are fitted where runs terminate against an appliance or an open end. Up-stands or tile-height covers are fitted at the wall junction if specified. Exposed edges are trimmed to the correct profile. The result is a worktop installation that looks intentional from every angle.
