What Happens During a Kitchen Survey?
Our pre-installation survey is a structured assessment of your home and kitchen plan. Here is exactly what happens from the moment our surveyor arrives.
Stage 1 — Room Dimensions
Our surveyor measures every dimension of your kitchen using a laser measuring tool — length, width, ceiling height, window and door positions, and any structural features such as chimney breasts, columns, or sloping ceilings. These measurements are compared against your kitchen designer's plan. Any discrepancies are noted and discussed.
Stage 2 — Services Assessment
The positions of all services are checked and recorded: cold water supply and waste pipe positions for the sink and dishwasher, electrical socket and circuit positions, and gas supply position if applicable. We confirm that services are (or will be, after first fix) in the correct positions for the planned appliance and sink locations.
Stage 3 — Room Condition
We assess floor levels using a spirit level and laser, wall conditions (plumb, flat, solid), and ceiling height. Unlevel floors, out-of-plumb walls, and hollow areas behind walls are all noted as factors that affect the installation programme and quote.
Stage 4 — Access
We check that all units — particularly tall larder units, large appliances, and island sections — can physically be brought through your front door, hallway, and into the kitchen. This is more important than it might seem: a 600mm larder unit is approximately 220cm tall and needs a clear route.
Stage 5 — The Quote
Following the survey (typically the same day or within 24 hours), we provide a fixed installation quote covering all agreed elements of the installation. This quote does not change unless you change the scope of work.

Yes — please have your kitchen plan or designer's drawings available. The more detail you can share, the more accurate the survey. Appliance specifications and measurements are also helpful.
We can survey the room without a finalised plan, but the quote will be an estimate rather than a fixed price. We recommend completing the kitchen design before booking the survey.
We aim to provide your fixed installation quote within 24 hours of the survey. For complex projects, this may be 48 hours.
