What Affects the Cost of a Small Kitchen Installation?

Installation cost is primarily driven by time on site. The more units, the more complex the layout, and the more challenging the room, the longer the installation takes. Here are the main factors we consider when pricing a small kitchen.

• Number of units

  A small kitchen runs to 8–12 units. More units means more assembly, more levelling, more fixing, and more worktop to cut and finish. Our day rate of approximately £350 reflects a fair and transparent basis for calculating cost.

• Layout shape

  A simple linear or L-shaped layout is quicker to install than a U-shape or one with an island. Corner units, tall housings, and peninsulas each add fitting time and are assessed individually at the pre-installation survey.

• Worktop material

  Laminate worktops are cut and fitted directly by our team. Stone worktops — quartz, granite, or solid surface — require a template taken by the stone supplier and then a return visit for fitting. This adds a day to the overall programme and is a separate cost arranged with the stone supplier.

• Appliance connections

  Positioning and fitting integrated appliances — ovens, microwaves, dishwashers, fridges, extractors — is included in our installation rate. Electrical and plumbing connections are made by your electrician and plumber.

• Condition of the existing room

  Unlevel floors, out-of-plumb walls, and uneven ceilings all require scribing, packing, and adjustment work. We identify these issues at the pre-installation survey so there are no surprises during the installation itself.

• Strip-out of the old kitchen

  Removing the existing kitchen is included in our standard installation quote. We take down the old units, disconnect appliances (leaving final disconnection of services to your relevant trade), and remove the waste from site.

What Is Included in Our Installation Quote?

Our installation quote covers everything involved in physically fitting your small kitchen. There are no hidden add-ons once your fixed price has been agreed following the survey.

Included in the quote: strip-out of the existing kitchen and removal of waste from site; assembly of all cabinet carcasses; fitting of all base, wall, and tall units; levelling, scribing, and packing to achieve a professional finish against imperfect walls and floors; fitting of doors, drawers, and internal fittings; fitting of laminate worktops including all cuts, joins, and finishing; fitting of the sink bowl and taps into the worktop (connection to supply and waste by your plumber); fitting of all integrated appliances into the cabinet apertures (connection to electricity and plumbing by the relevant trades); and a full handover with adjustment of all doors and drawers.

Not included: the kitchen itself; stone worktops (template and fabrication by stone supplier); electrical and plumbing connections; tiling, plastering, or flooring; and any structural work that may be required. We are transparent about what falls outside our scope and can advise on trades you will need to arrange alongside our installation.

Why a Pre-Installation Survey Gives You a More Accurate Price

The cost ranges shown on this page are well-researched starting points for a small kitchen, but your room is unique. A pre-installation survey — which costs £195 and is credited back in full when you confirm your booking — allows us to produce a fixed-price quote based on your actual room, your specific kitchen plan, and any challenges identified during the visit.

During the survey, our fitter will take full measurements of the room, check floor levels across the entire footprint, assess wall and ceiling conditions, note service positions for the sink, dishwasher, and cooker, and review your kitchen plan against the actual space. Any discrepancies between the plan and the room are flagged before you commit, saving the cost and inconvenience of reordering components after delivery.

The survey is particularly valuable if your small kitchen includes a stone worktop, an island, or any bespoke elements. The fixed-price quote issued after the survey is the price you pay — there are no additions once work is underway unless you specifically request extra work.

How to Prepare for Your Kitchen Installation

A well-prepared installation runs more smoothly and is less likely to overrun. The following steps help to ensure your project stays on track.

Confirm delivery of your kitchen before the installation start date. Late or incomplete deliveries are the most common cause of delays on kitchen projects. Check each component against the order when it arrives, and report any missing or damaged items to your supplier immediately — well before the fitter is due.

Arrange your electrician and plumber in advance. First-fix work — moving or extending cables and pipes — should be completed before the kitchen installation begins. Second-fix work (final connections) takes place once the units and worktops are in position. Agreeing these dates in sequence before the project starts avoids costly delays.

If you have a stone worktop, ensure your stone supplier has a template date booked within the first two days of the installation. The template is taken once the base units are level and in position. Fabrication typically takes 5–7 working days, so early scheduling prevents a gap in the programme.

Clear the kitchen space before the fitter arrives. Personal items, crockery, and any furniture stored in the kitchen should be moved to another room. The more accessible the space, the quicker the strip-out and the sooner productive installation time can begin.
