What Makes a Kitchen Fitter the Best?

The question of who is the "best" kitchen fitter is partly subjective, but there are clear objective factors that separate excellent kitchen fitters from average ones. Understanding these factors helps you make a confident choice for your project.

Experience is the most important factor. Kitchen installation is a craft that improves with practice. A fitter who has installed 50 kitchens will produce better results than one who has installed 10, and a fitter who has installed 1,000 kitchens will handle complications with a composure and efficiency that only comes from deep experience. Thirty years of full-time kitchen installation represents several thousand projects — a level of experience that very few individual fitters in the Coventry area can match.

Retailer knowledge matters too. Each major retailer has its own unit format, hardware specification, and delivery process. Howdens uses Blum hardware and depot collection. Wren delivers pre-assembled rigid units. IKEA METOD requires flat-pack assembly on site. Magnet Trade uses a different carcass format from the consumer Magnet range. A fitter who installs across all of these brands regularly develops the specific knowledge to handle each efficiently. A fitter who primarily fits one brand may struggle with the others.

Survey discipline separates the best fitters from the rest. An excellent kitchen fitter will not agree to install your kitchen without first visiting your home, checking the room against the plan, and assessing the floor, walls, services, and access conditions. This survey — carried out before any work is priced or booked — is what allows a fitter to give you an accurate fixed price and a realistic programme. Fitters who skip this step are cutting corners that will eventually show up as problems on your project.

Our Survey-First Process

Every Install My Kitchen project begins with a pre-installation survey at your home. Pindi visits, spends 45–90 minutes checking your kitchen plan against your actual room, and produces a written survey report. Within 24 hours of the survey, you receive a fixed written price for your kitchen installation.

The survey checks: room dimensions versus plan, floor level across the full kitchen footprint, wall plumb and condition, all service positions (plumbing, electrical, gas), appliance positions and housing dimensions, access routes and delivery logistics, and any structural features that will affect the installation — chimney breasts, boxing, RSJs. Nothing is assumed. Everything is checked.

The survey fee is £195. This fee is credited in full against your installation balance when you confirm your fitting date with a booking deposit. If you decide not to proceed after the survey, the fee is retained — it covers Pindi's time and the written survey report, which is yours to keep.
