Magnet Kitchens sells through high-street showrooms and offers an optional installation service through a network of approved fitters. Unlike Howdens, which operates exclusively through the trade, Magnet sells directly to consumers and presents their installation service as a natural complement to the kitchen purchase. However, as with other major retailers, using Magnet's installation service is optional — there is no requirement to do so, and no penalty for choosing an independent fitter.

Magnet also operates a trade arm — Magnet Trade — through which kitchen fitters and builders can order units directly. This route is separate from the consumer showroom experience and offers a different range of units at trade pricing. What to Look for in an Independent Magnet Fitter

Magnet's ranges span from standard shaker and slab designs through to in-frame and painted styles. The fitting requirements vary considerably across these categories. A standard Magnet shaker kitchen in a rigid carcass format is straightforward for any experienced fitter. A Magnet in-frame or painted style requires additional care and time during the door and drawer alignment phase.

In-frame kitchens — where the door sits within a visible timber frame rather than covering the carcass face — have a very distinctive look that only works when alignment is done correctly. The tolerances are tighter, the adjustment is more involved, and the result of poor alignment is more immediately visible. When choosing a fitter for a Magnet in-frame kitchen, look specifically for experience with in-frame designs — not just general kitchen fitting experience.

Magnet uses Blum hardware throughout their current ranges. Correctly adjusting Blum CLIP top hinges, Tandembox drawer runners and push-to-open mechanisms is a skill that comes with practice. Magnet Delivery and Independent Installation

When you purchase a Magnet kitchen through their showroom, Magnet arranges delivery to your home. Delivery timing is coordinated at the design stage. Your independent fitter should be informed of the expected delivery date and ideally should check the delivery against the Magnet order list on arrival — or arrange to do so before installation day.

Magnet units are rigid pre-assembled carcasses. Like Howdens and Wren, there is no flat-pack assembly required on site. This makes the installation programme efficient: a medium Magnet kitchen of 13–20 units typically takes 4–6 days for an experienced fitter. A small kitchen takes 3–4 days; a large kitchen 6–8 days or more depending on complexity.

Any damaged or incorrect items in the Magnet delivery should be reported to Magnet promptly — within their standard reporting window, which is typically 48–72 hours from delivery. Report issues before installation begins, not mid-installation when the impact of a missing item is maximised.

Independent vs Magnet's Own Installation Service

Magnet's in-house installation service is managed through approved subcontractors. Scheduling windows are typically longer than independent fitters — expect four to eight weeks in most areas. The cost is generally higher than an equivalent independent fitter for the same scope of work.

Independent fitters offer more direct accountability and typically faster scheduling. When you work with an independent fitter, any snagging item after completion is dealt with directly — one phone call to the person who did the work. With Magnet's service, queries go through the showroom and their contractor management process, which adds time and layers to what should be a simple resolution.

For homeowners who value a direct, personal working relationship and a faster installation schedule, an independent fitter is almost always the better option for a Magnet kitchen.
