Do I Need a Survey Before Kitchen Installation?
A pre-installation survey is strongly recommended. It checks that your room matches your kitchen plan, confirms services are correctly positioned, identifies any risks, and enables an accurate fixed quote. Install My Kitchen's survey costs £195 and is credited back against your installation balance on booking.
- A survey catches problems before they become expensive on-site surprises
- Our survey checks room dimensions, services, levels, walls, access and appliances
- The £195 fee is credited back in full when you book your installation
- Skipping a survey risks delays, additional costs and a poor finish
What Does a Kitchen Installation Survey Cover?
Our pre-installation survey is a thorough assessment of your home and your kitchen plan conducted by an experienced surveyor. It covers:
- Room dimensions vs plan: We measure every dimension of your room with laser equipment and compare it against your kitchen designer's drawing. Discrepancies are common and can require changes to the kitchen plan.
- Service positions: Water supply and waste, electrical sockets and circuits, and gas connections are all checked against the planned positions for your appliances and sink.
- Floor levels: An unlevel floor requires careful packing during installation. We assess the extent of any variation and factor this into the programme.
- Wall condition: Out-of-plumb or uneven walls require scribing of filler panels and end panels. Walls with surface issues may need remedial work before installation.
- Access routes: We check that units, particularly tall larder units and large appliances, can be brought through your doors, hallway and staircase if necessary.
- Appliance positions: We confirm that all appliances fit the specified spaces and that services are in the correct position.
What Happens Without a Survey?
Installations that proceed without a survey frequently encounter problems that could have been avoided. The most common are room dimensions that do not match the plan, resulting in units that do not fit; service positions that are in the wrong location for the planned appliances; and floor or wall conditions that require additional work, extending the programme and adding cost.
The Survey Fee
Our survey costs £195. This is credited in full against your installation balance when you confirm your date and pay your deposit. If you choose not to proceed after the survey, the fee is retained. For the peace of mind and accuracy a survey provides, it represents exceptional value.
Related Questions
Typically 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on kitchen complexity. We ask that someone over 18 is present throughout.
Your kitchen plan or designer's drawings, any appliance specifications, and access to the room including under-floor areas if relevant. The more information you have to hand, the more accurate the survey outcome.
We can provide a broad estimate based on kitchen size and retailer. However, a fixed, accurate quote requires a survey visit. We strongly recommend a survey before committing to any installation.
We will explain the issue clearly, advise on the most cost-effective solution, and adjust the installation quote accordingly. In most cases, problems identified at survey stage are straightforward to resolve.
