Do Kitchen Fitters Do Tiling?
Some kitchen fitters offer tiling as an optional service. Install My Kitchen offers wall and floor tiling as an optional extra. Wall tiling around splashbacks typically happens after units are in; floor tiling is usually done before units are installed.
Wall Tiling — When It Happens
Wall tiling in a kitchen is typically carried out after the base and wall units are installed but before the worktops are fitted. Tiling the splashback area at this stage means the tiles can be cut neatly to the underside of the wall units and the top of the base units, with the worktop covering the bottom edge of the tiles. Attempting to tile before units are in place requires more precise measurement and often results in cuts that do not align cleanly with the units. There are exceptions — some clients prefer to tile the full wall before installation — and the approach will be agreed during the survey.
Floor Tiling Timing
Floor tiling, where it is part of the project, is usually completed before kitchen units are installed. This avoids the need to cut tiles around the base of every unit and underneath the plinth area. An uninterrupted tiled floor also makes future changes easier — if a unit is ever moved or replaced, the floor beneath is already tiled. In practice, this means floor tiling must be completed, grouted, and fully cured before the kitchen fitter returns to begin cabinet installation. The survey will confirm the correct sequence for your specific project.
Tiling as an Optional Addition
Not all kitchen fitters offer tiling. Install My Kitchen provides wall and floor tiling as an optional service alongside kitchen installation, removing the need to coordinate a separate tiler. This simplifies the project timeline and ensures the tiling and installation work together as part of a single, co-ordinated programme. Tiles should ideally run under the units, or at least to the line where the plinth will sit. This ensures that if units are ever moved or replaced, the floor is not left with bare patches. Full floor tiling before unit installation is the cleanest approach.
Yes — many homeowners choose to tile their own splashback after the kitchen is complete. The tiles are fitted to the wall between the worktop and the underside of the wall units. This is a reasonable DIY task if you are comfortable with basic tiling.
Old tiles behind units do not always need to be removed, as they will be hidden. However, old floor tiles or wall tiles in visible areas may need removing if new tiles are being fitted. The survey will assess this for your specific kitchen.
Tiling cost depends on the area, tile type, and complexity of the cut. Your Install My Kitchen survey will include a separate tiling price if you wish to include this service alongside the kitchen fitting.
